THE MOTHER OF STYLES

origins

FROM THE HIGHLANDS TO THE PAVEMENT.

Pagu Pagu is not a modern hybrid. It is a direct transmission of Silek Tuo (Old Silat), the foundational combat system of the Minangkabau people of West Sumatra.

Historically, this was not taught to outsiders. It was the ‘village insurance’—a system designed to protect the community from bandits and invaders. It relies on the concept of ‘Gelek’ (geometric evasion) rather than blocking. It does not meet force with force; it meets force with a void.
